Marthe Reed

Marthe Reed’s latest Lavender Ink title Nights reading was published in 2014. She is the author of pleth, a collaboration with j hastain (Unlikely Books 2013), (em)bodied bliss (Moria Books 2013), Gaze (Black Radish Books 2010) and Tender Box, A Wunderkammer (Lavender Ink 2007). She has published six chapbooks (Dusie Kollektiv, above / ground press, and Shirt Pocket Press). Her collaborative chapbook throwntext by j hastain with Reed’s collages, won the 2013 Smoking Glue Gun contest and will appear in 2014. Her poetry has appeared in New American Writing, Golden Handcuffs Review, New Orleans Review, HOW2, MiPOesias, Fairy Tale Review, Exquisite Corpse, BlazeVOX, and The Offending Adam, among others. Her manuscript, an earth of sweetness dances in the veinwas a finalist in Ahsahta Press’ 2006 Sawtooth Poetry Contest. An essay on Claudia Rankine’s The Provenance of Beauty: A South Bronx Travelogue appears in American Letters and Commentary. The former director of the Creative Writing Program and “The Gaines Series and Creative Writing Presents” reading series at UL Lafayette, she now resides in Syracuse, NY, where she is Co-Publisher of Black Radish Books and Editor/Publisher of Nous-zot Press chapbooks. 

Marthe died, suddenly and tragically, on April 9, 2018, after a lifetime of devotion to poetry and poets.
